Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS, Mo.-No. 11 Missouri-St. Louis swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Thursday, winning the first game 8-4 and claiming a 9-4 win in the nightcap.
In the opener, UMSL (7-1) used two walks and three hits in the second inning to take a lead they would never relinquish.
The Lady Bucs (4-15) answered with two in the top of the fourth.
Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) drew a leadoff walk and scored on a
Kylie Steagall (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) double to left. Pinch-runner
Bianca Cowan (Byhalia, Miss./Center Hill HS) advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a
Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) single to right to bring CBU within a run.
UMSL tacked on two more on four hits in the fourth inning, and they added three runs on four walks and a double in the sixth.
The Lady Bucs scored twice in the seventh.
Amy Gracia (Fontana, Calif./International Polytechnic HS) laid down a bunt single and moved to second on a walk to
Gabrielle Sereika (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute).
Gabriela Nodine (Redlands, Calif./Redlands HS) laid down another bunt single to load the bases with one out.
Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) reached on an error to drive in Gracia, and Fernandez scored on the error to set the final margin at 8-4. A pickoff and a strikeout ended the threat.
The Lady Bucs were held to four hits, one each by four different players in the game.
In game two, the Tritons took the lead on a two-run second-inning homer by Alex Stupek. They scored a run on an error in the fourth inning and three runs on three hits and two walks in the fifth.
CBU got on the board in the top of the sixth. Gonzalez reached on an error and moved to second on a Steagall single. Sereika singled to load the bases with none out.
Sammi Canizaro (Nesbit, Miss./Horn Lake HS) reached on an error, scoring two runs, and Nodine hit an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to 6-3.
After another UMSL homer, a three-run shot by Madison Zbaraschuk in the sixth, the Lady Bucs set the final score with a run in the top of the seventh. Joiner drew a leadoff walk but was forced out when Gracia grounded into a force play. Gonzalez was hit by a pitch, and back-to-back walks to Steagall and Sereika brought Gracia in.
Joiner went 3-for-3 with a walk in the second game for the Lady Bucs, while Steagall was 1-for-2 with two walks.
The Lady Bucs return to action Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they host North Alabama for a GSC doubleheader.
