Box Score 2 MEMPHIS-No. 15 North Alabama took advantage of a strong wind blowing out to centerfield Friday afternoon at Bland Field, blasting nine homers as they swept the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 22-0 and 18-2.
The Lions (24-6, 11-3 GSC) scored in all five innings in the opener, with a Chloe Wolf grand slam giving them a 4-0 lead in the first inning. They hit three straight homers as part of a nine-run second inning, adding two in the third and one in the fourth. They set the final score with a six-run fifth inning.
Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) collected the Lady Bucs' only hit in the game in the fourth inning, as UNA pitcher BreeAnna Blevins tossed a shutout with seven strikeouts against a hit, a walk and two hit batters.
In the second game, the Lady Bucs (5-17, 1-10) kept UNA's offense at bay until the third inning, when the Lions turned two errors and a stolen base into a run. The Lions' bats broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning on four singles, two walks and a three-run Shelby Goodman homer.
The Lady Bucs scored twice in the bottom of the fifth.
Sammi Canizaro (Nesbit, Miss./Horn Lake HS) and
Tiari-Jay Fernandez (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani HS) started the inning with a pair of singles. After they were out on two fielder's choices,
Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) blasted a two-run double to center to score
Amy Gracia (Fontana, Calif./International Polytechnic HS) and
Alexis Seward (Chino, Calif./Chino HS).
UNA blew it open in the top of the seventh with 11 runs on seven hits, three walks and an error.
The Lady Bucs meet UNA again tomorrow at noon for the final game of the series.
