Box Score 2 VALDOSTA, Ga.-High-powered Valdosta State blasted six home runs as they swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon, winning the opener 10-2 and claiming a 15-0 win in the nightcap.
In the opener, VSU (26-8, 10-5 GSC) scored the game's first 10 runs before the Lady Bucs set the final margin with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth.
VSU used a single, a walk, an error and back-to-back homers to score five runs in the second inning to blow the game open. They added two more in the third on two triples and a double, and they used two walks and a three-run homer to extend their lead to 10-0 in the fourth.
Sammi Canizaro (Nesbit, Miss./Horn Lake HS) sparked the CBU rally with a one-out single in the fifth, and
Amy Gracia (Fontana, Calif./International Polytechnic HS) followed with an infield single. After
Amanda Wade (Water Valley, Ky./Graves County HS) pushed them to second and third with a groundout,
Gabrielle Sereika (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) hit a two-run single up the middle.
Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) added another single, but a groundout ended the game.
Prior to the fifth inning, the Lady Bucs only mustered two baserunners, a single and a walk, against VSU starter Maci Fletcher.
In game two, Blazer pitcher Brianna Hancock threw a no-hitter and center fielder Courtney Albritton blasted three home runs to power VSU to the victory.
VSU scored in all four innings they batted in the second game. Albritton hit a solo homer in the first inning, and VSU scored five runs in the second inning on three hits and three errors. VSU scored five more in the third on a walk and five hits, including another Albritton homer.
And VSU set the final margin with four more runs in the fourth inning on two singles, a walk and a three-run homer by Albritton.
CBU put two runners on base against Hancock, both with none out in the second inning as
Kylie Steagall (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) walked and Sereika was hit by a pitch. But two strikeouts and a foul out ended the threat, and Hancock didn't allow another baserunner.
The Lady Bucs meet VSU again Sunday at 11 a.m. Eastern for the third game of the series. CBU's next home game is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they host Missouri S&T for a non-conference doubleheader.
