Box Score 2 CLEVELAND, Miss.-Host Delta State swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon, winning the opener 8-1 and claiming a 5-1 win in the nightcap.
The Lady Bucs (3-12, 1-7 GSC) jumped to an early lead in the first game.
Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) walked and moved to third on a pair of groundouts.
Kylie Steagall (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) singled her home to give CBU a 1-0 lead that would last until the fifth inning.
In the fifth, however, DSU (10-12, 4-7) plated five runs on five hits and an error. They tacked on three more runs on three hits and an error.
Steagall went 3-for-3 for the Lady Bucs.
In the second game it was DSU who took the early lead, plating three runs on four hits in the bottom of the first. They tacked on tallies in the third and fifth innings to take a 5-0 lead.
The Lady Bucs set the final margin in the top of the sixth with a run.
Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a Steagall single. A fielder's choice forced Gonzalez out at third, and
Lauren Provence (Millington, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) singled Steagall home.
Nikki Story (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) went 2-for-4 for the Lady Bucs in game two.
The Lady Bucs meet DSU again tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
