No. 7 Chargers Sweep Lady Bucs

Jennifer Gonzalez hit an RBI double in the Lady Bucs' 5-1 loss in game two at No. 7 Alabama-Huntsville Saturday. UAH won the first game 8-0.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-No. 7 Alabama-Huntsville swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon, winning the opener 8-0 and claiming a 5-1 win in game two.

In the opener, the Chargers (32-6, 17-6 GSC) used two singles and a stolen base to score a run in the first inning, and they tacked on two in the third on a single, a walk, a double and a sacrifice fly.

They added two in the fourth on two walks and two singles, and they ended the game with three runs in the sixth on a double, an error and three singles.

The Lady Bucs (9-30, 2-21) put a runner on base in the first and last innings, as Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) was hit by a pitch in the first and Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) reached on an infield single in the sixth to break up a no-hitter bid for UAH pitcher Whitney Toler.

In game two it was the Lady Bucs who struck first. In the top of the second, Gabrielle Sereika (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) worked a one-out walk, and pinch-runner Lorin Raines (Brighton, Tenn./Brighton HS) scored from first on a Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) double to center.

UAH answered in a big way in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs on a walk, two singles and a three-run Emily Glover home run.

Glover also pitched for UAH, holding the Lady Bucs to three hits and a walk in the game.

Amanda Wade (Water Valley, Ky./Graves County HS) threw three and a third innings of scoreless relief for CBU, allowing one hit and two walks.

The Lady Bucs meet UAH again tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. for the final game of the series. Their next home game is Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they host West Georgia for  doubleheader.
