Lady Bucs' Rally Just Short in Home Finale

The Lady Bucs lost 2-1 to West Georgia Saturday in their final home game of the season.
Box Score MEMPHIS-Visiting West Georgia claimed a 2-1 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon in CBU's final home game of the season.

UWG (22-24, 10-16 GSC) struck first in the top of the second, when Jordan Corbin homered to right-center to start the inning, and they tacked on another run in the fifth when they scored on a throwing error after a bases-loaded force play at the plate.

The Lady Bucs (9-35, 2-25) had threatened to tie in the bottom of the fourth. Amy Gracia (Fontana, Calif./International Polytechnic HS) singled but was tagged out when Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) hit into a fielder's choice. Gabrielle Sereika (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) doubled to right, putting runners on second and third with one out, but a strikeout and a popout ended the gme.

CBU finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh, when Lauren Provence (Millington, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) led off the inning with a pinch-hit homer. With one out, Alexis Seward (Chino, Calif./Chino HS) doubled and moved to third on a Bianca Cowan (Byhalia, Miss./Center Hill HS) single. After Cowan stole second, CBU again had runners on second and third with one out. But they were unable to capitalize, with the game ending on a pair of flyouts.

Seward and Cowan each went 2-for-3 for the Lady Bucs. Kim Adams (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) threw two and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief, allowing just two hits. Amanda Wade (Water Valley, Ky./Graves County HS) allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits and a walk in four and a third innings.

The Lady Bucs close out the regular season next weekend as they visit Lee. Saturday's doubleheader starts at noon, with a single game set for 1 p.m. Sunday. The GSC Tournament will be held May 1-3 in Cullman, Ala.
