In the opener, the Lady Bucs (7-28, 2-18 GSC) struck first with two runs in the second inning. Amy Gracia (Fontana, Calif./International Polytechnic HS) singled, and Ali Hare (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida Baker HS) drew a walk. Union (21-17, 6-12) used a homer, a walk, a wild pitch and a single to score twice in the third inning, and they scored a run in the fifth on a hit batter and a double to take a 3-2 lead.

CBU answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth. Cowan and Marie Joiner (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) started the inning with back-to-back singles. After a Nikki Story (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) sacrifice bunt, Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) hit a sacrifice fly to center to tie the game at three. The Lady Bucs took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kim Adams (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) was hit by a pitch, and pinch-runner Lorin Raines (Brighton, Tenn./Brighton HS) moved to second on a Gracia sacrifice bunt and third on a Hare groundout. Pinch-hitter Lauren Provence (Millington, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) hit an infield single to score Raines for the winning run.

Adams pitched around a leadoff single in the top of the seventh to hold onto the victory. She allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks against five strikeouts in seven innings. Cowan went 2-for-3 in the game for the Lady Bucs.

Union used a four-run fourth inning to take control in game two, after the first three innings were scoreless. They batted around in the inning on a double, a walk and four singles, plating four runs to take a 4-0 lead.

The Lady Bucs cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fifth. Provence launched a leadoff homer to left-center, and Hare reached on a two-base error. After stealing third, she scored on a Joiner single to cut the margin to 4-2.

Union set the final margin in the top of the seventh with a run on two singles, a passed ball and a groundout, giving them a 5-2 lead. The Lady Bucs loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning on singles by Provence and Joiner and a Cowan walk, but two strikeouts ended the threat.
