Box Score MEMPHIS-Union pitcher Kelly Robey tossed a two-hit shutout to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 4-0 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Sunday afternoon at Bland Field in the rubber game of the three-game Gulf South Conference series.
The Lady Bulldogs (22-17, 7-12 GSC) did all their scoring in the top of the second inning, plating four runs on five hits and two walks.
CBU (7-29, 2-19) threatened to score in the bottom of the second, when
Lauren Provence (Millington, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) was hit by a pitch and
Amy Gracia (Fontana, Calif./International Polytechnic HS) laid down a bunt single. A double-steal put them on second and third, but the Lady Bucs were unable to score them. CBU left five runners on base in the game, four of which were stranded in scoring position.
Sammi Canizaro (Nesbit, Miss./Horn Lake HS) also hit a fifth-inning single for the Lady Bucs' other hit of the game.
Amanda Wade (Water Valley, Ky./Graves County HS) tossed three and a third scoreless innings of relief, allowing two hits and two walks against one strikeout.
The Lady Bucs step out of GSC play for the final time of the season Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they host Talladega College. They visit No. 9 Alabama-Huntsville for a three-game GSC series next weekend, with Saturday's doubleheader set for 3 p.m. and a single game scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday.
