MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs hit a season-high .286 as they rolled to a three-set sweep of visiting West Georgia Friday night at Canale Arena.
In the first set, the Lady Bucs jumped to a quick 7-3 lead and never allowed the Wolves closer than two points again, winning the set 25-18 behind five aces. In the second set, the Lady Bucs hit .480, their best hitting percentage in a set this season. After leading 13-8, the Lady Bucs rattled off nine straight points to stretch their lead to 22-8, winning the set 25-12. In the third set, the Lady Bucs scored four of the last five to win 25-21 in a nip-and-tuck set to complete the sweep.
Junior
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) paced the Lady Bucs' offense with 10 kills, while freshman
Maggie Sorensen (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) had a match-best 11 digs to go with six kills and four aces. Sami Gruse dished out a match-best 30 assists.
Tiesha Alston led the Wolves with seven kills. Amanda Miller posted a team-high 14 assists, and Casey Roethler added eight digs.
The Lady Bucs return to action tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. as they host West Alabama.
