PENSACOLA, Fla.-No. 18 West Florida hit .326 as they swept a Gulf South Conference match from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Friday night.
After leading the first set 15-12, the Argos (10-0, 4-0 GSC) scored 10 of the final 15 points to pull away to a 25-17 win. UWF jumped to an 8-2 lead early in the second set, but the Lady Bucs closed within two points at 11-9 and stayed close, but the Argos won the set 25-20. In the third set, UWF again stretched out a narrow lead midway through the set, from 11-9 to 20-12 en route to a 25-17 win to complete the sweep.
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) led the Lady Bucs (3-6, 2-3) with nine kills to go with 10 digs, while
Maggie Sorensen (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) and
Brinsley Cooper (Rossville, Ind./Rossville HS) added six kills each.
Brittany Toney (Rockledge, Fla./Rockledge HS) and
Hannah Sholtis (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community HS) garnered 11 digs each, while
Sami Gruse (Lafayette, Ind./Central Catholic HS) had 22 assists.
Cora Bidlack led UWF with nine kills. Monique St. Cyr had 18 assists, and Tori Martella collected a match-best 13 digs.
CBU returns to action tomorrow at noon as they visit Valdosta State. Their next home game is Friday night, Sept. 26, as they step out of GSC play to host Trevecca Nazarene at 6 p.m.
