Choctaws Top Bucs 1-0 in Overtime

MEMPHIS-Mississippi College midfielder Stephen Roberson scored a golden goal in the 97th minute to hand the Christian Brothers University Bucs a 1-0 loss Monday night at Signaigo Field.

The first 90 minutes saw each team with one strong scoring chance. A potential Jose Ferraz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) goal for CBU (4-1) was called back for offsides in the 43rd minute, and CBU goalkeeper Britton McGuire (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) made a spectacular save on a shot by George Frandenburg.

In the overtime, the Choctaws (5-2) intercepted a CBU pass on their defensive end, then played a pass ahead to Brian Vasquez in the midfield. Vasquez passed ahead to Roberson on the right side near the top of the 18-yard box, and Roberson curled a shot into the top left corner of the net for the game's only goal.

For the game, the Bucs out-shot MC 13-11, but they only put two shots on goal to MC's four. McGuire made three saves in the game for CBU.

The Bucs hit the road this weekend for their first GSC games of the season. They visit Spring Hill Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. before visiting West Florida Sunday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. Their next home game is Friday night, Oct. 3, as they host Alabama-Huntsville at 7 p.m.
