Lady Bucs Stun Argos 4-2

PENSACOLA, Fla.-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs scored twice in each half as they claimed a 4-2 win at West Florida. The win was CBU's first over UWF since 2003 and the first in Pensacola since 2001. Senior goalkeeper Robyn Wade (Collierville, Tenn., Collierville HS) set a new school record for career saves in the second half.

The Lady Bucs (7-1, 3-1 GSC) started the scoring early as Ellen Garner (Pulaski, Tenn./Giles County HS) scored on the rebound after a Camilla Rodrigues (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/American School) shot was saved. UWF (4-3, 2-1 GSC) equalized in the 24th minute when April Syme headed in a free kick by Sara Helgadottir.

Another Rodrigues shot led to a goal in the 40th minute. After her long shot from the midfield area was saved, Mariana Tonelli (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/American School) scored when the rebound came loose in the box to give CBU a 2-1 lead.

Alex Bickenbach (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) tacked on another score in the 59th minute as she dribbled into a 1-on-1 on a breakaway, finding the net to give CBU a 3-1 edge. Rodrigues put the final nail in the coffin in the 75th minute when she scored on a shot from 20 yards out.

Helgadottir set the final margin in the 82nd minute as she scored on a free kick to the near post.

For the game, UWF out-shot the Lady Bucs 24-12, including a 10-9 edge in shots on goal.

Wade made six saves for the game, breaking the school career record with her sixth in the 75th minute when she saved a shot by Devanny Brennan. She now has 236 career saves, breaking the previous record of 235 set by Karen McKenzie (1998-00). Wade already held the school marks for career wins and shutouts.

The win over UWF snaps CBU's 11-game losing streak to UWF since beating them 2-1 in the GSC championship Nov. 9, 2003 in Huntsville, Ala. CBU had lost eight straight to UWF in Pensacola since defeating UWF 4-0 Oct. 5, 2001.

The Lady Bucs return to action Friday night at 5 p.m. as they welcome Alabama-Huntsville to Signaigo Field.
