MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs claimed their third straight win Tuesday night as they swept Union in three sets at Canale Arena.
The Lady Bucs (6-7, 4-4 GSC) set the tone early with a dominant performance in the first set. They hit a season-best .519 in the set, but the key stretch came after Union (4-10, 1-7) had trimmed the CBU lead to 11-8.
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) pounded a kill to regain the serve, then she followed with three consecutive aces to spark a 7-point run that gave CBU an 18-8 lead en route to a 25-11 win in the set. CBU won the second set 25-17, and they completed the sweep with a 25-23 win in the third set.
Gillis collected a career-high seven aces for the match, tied for the fifth-most in a match in school history. She added nine kills, four digs and three blocks to collect a match-high 17.5 points.
Maggie Sorensen (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) added nine kills and six digs, hitting .350.
Mary Kathryn Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) pounded seven kills while hitting .462.
Sami Gruse (Lafayette, Ind./Central Catholic HS) dished out 22 assists in two sets, while
Marisa Wong (Germantown, Tenn./Houston HS) notched a team-high seven digs.
Savannah Hughes led Union with eight kills. Hannah Huguley had 17 assists, and Kristin Cook posted a match-high eight digs.
The Lady Bucs return to action Friday night at 7 p.m. as they host Lee.
