Hawks Burn Bucs 96-65

MEMPHIS-Visiting Shorter used a pair of 16-2 first-half runs to take command early as they cruised to a 96-65 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Thursday night at Canale Arena.

The Hawks (13-5, 8-4 GSC) never trailed, as their first 16-2 run left them ahead 20-4 on a Trevor McDade three-pointer with 11:44 remaining in the first half. Jordan Jacks capped the second 16-2 run with a layup that gave them a 42-13 lead with 3:30 remaining in the first half, and the Bucs never came closer than 21 points again.

Drew Hildreth (Memphis, Tenn./Bolton HS) led the Bucs with 15 points, while #Sidy Sall scored 11 with 11 rebounds.

Jacks led the Hawks with 23 points, and Dedric Ware scored 19 with six assists. Kordario Fleming added 12, while Travis Jones tacked on 10 with team-highs of nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

The Hawks shot 57.8 percent (37-of-64) overall to the Bucs' 36.9 percent (24-of-65), and they shot 47.6 percent (10-of-21) from three-point range to CBU's 13.0 percent (3-of-23). The Bucs out-rebounded the Hawks 42-31, including a 20-7 edge in offensive boards, but the Hawks forced 15 CBU turnovers while committing just seven.

The Hawks' 96 points was the Bucs' highest total allowed in a game this season and the most in regulation since a 98-72 loss at Southern Arkansas Jan. 14, 2002.

The Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. as they host Lee for Homecoming.
