CLEVELAND, Miss.-Senior guard
Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn., White Station HS) scored a game-high 17 points to move into second place on the Christian Brothers University career scoring list, but host Delta State claimed a 53-33 win over the Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon.
After the teams traded baskets to start, Delta State (12-7, 10-5 GSC) forward Rhandi Ball broke a 4-4 tie with a layup. Ball capped the run with another bucket to give DSU a 22-6 lead with 4:07 remaining in the half.
The Lady Bucs (6-15, 4-11) cut the lead back to single digits as
Rachel Lee (Jackson, Tenn./Jackson Christian School) scored five quick points in a 7-0 burst that cut the deficit to 22-13 with 1:24 remaining in the half, but CBU never came closer than nine again.
Ridgell scored 17 points with 10 rebounds and four steals, giving her 1,397 points, passing Taneisha Lenon (1996-2000), who had been in second place with 1,389. CBU head coach Sarah Condra is the career scoring leader with 1,506 points. Ridgell's four steals give her 187, three behind Lenon's school record of 190.
Ball and Chelsey Rhodes led DSU with 11 points each, and Seneca Walton added 10.
The Lady Bucs shot just 25 percent (12-of-48) for the game to DSU's 42 percent (22-of-52). DSU out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 42-31 and forced 19 CBU turnovers while committin 17.
The Lady Bucs return to action Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. as they visit West Alabama. Their next home game is Thursday, Feb. 12, when they host West Florida at 5 p.m.
