Lady Bucs Hold Off Tigers 64-61

LIVINGSTON, Ala.-Despite squandering an 11-point lead, the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs rallied for a 64-61 win at West Alabama Thursday night.

The Lady Bucs (7-15, 5-11) took an early lead with a 9-0 run sparked by a Rachel Lee (Jackson, Tenn./Jackson Christian School) triple and capped by back-to-back Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) jumpers, giving them an 11-6 lead with 14:02 remaining in the first half. After UWA (10-10, 7-9) rallied for a brief lead, the Lady Bucs used an 11-3 run, capped by a Ridgell three, giving them a 32-23 lead with 26 seconds remaining in the first half.

Early in the second half, CBU used a 6-0 burst capped by a Lee jumper that gave CBU a 41-30 lead with 15:01 remaining. UWA answered with a 16-1 run capped by a Britney McCloud layup that put the Tigers on top 46-42 with 9:46 to go. Ridgell answered the run with another triple, sparking a 10-2 run that put CBU ahead for good.

Ridgell led the Lady Bucs with 24 points, giving her 1,421 for her career, 85 behind head coach Sarah Condra (1999-04), for first place on CBU's career scoring list. She added three blocks and one steal, giving her 187 career steals, three behind the school record held by Taneisha Lenon (1996-00). Lee scored 18, while Taylor Pugh (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) scored nine points with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.

McCloud led the Tigers with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Jasmine Hampton scored 16.

The Lady Bucs shot 42.1 percent (24-of-57) for the game while UWA was 45.6 percent (26-of-57), but CBU was 71.4 percent (10-of-14) at the free throw line to UWA's 57.1 percent (4-of-7). UWA out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 38-31, including a 9-6 edge in offensive boards, but the Lady Bucs forced 17 UWA turnovers while committing 10.

The Lady Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they visit West Georgia. Their next home game is set for next Thursday night at 5 p.m. when they host West Florida.
