Tigers Sweep Lady Bucs

LIVINGSTON, Ala.-Host West Alabama swept a three-set match from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Tigers (11-18, 9-10 GSC) broke a 9-9 tie with an 11-5 run to take a 20-14 lead, and they held on for a 25-20 win.
• In the second set, CBU (8-21, 4-15) had a 3-2 lead before the Tigers seized control with a 17-5 run to take a commanding 19-8 lead. The Lady Bucs responded with a furious rally, scoring five straight to pull within 19-13, then three straight to close within 22-17. After two UWA points, the Tigers served for match point ahead 24-17. CBU answered with six straight to close within 24-23, but the Tigers ended the set with a kill for a 25-23 win.
• UWA opened the third set with an 11-2 run and again appeared to have the match well in hand. Again CBU responded with a rally, using a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to 17-16, then taking a 21-20 run when a double-block by Brinsley Cooper (Rossville, Ind./Rossville HS) and Jessica Reber (Byron, Ill./Byron HS) capped a 5-1 run. The teams traded leads and CBU served for set point ahead 25-24, 27-26 and 28-27 before the Tigers scored the final three points to claim a 30-28 win and clinch the sweep.

KEY STATS:
• Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) led CBU with 11 kills as she hit .222.
• Cooper logged 10 kills and hit .438 with three blocks.
• Demi Chipman (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) had a team-high 10 digs.
• Reber collected 22 assists and four digs.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs wrap up the 2015 campaign tomorrow afternoon as they visit West Georgia for a 1 p.m. match.
