Tigers Outlast Lady Bucs 69-60

LIVINGSTON, Ala.-Host West Alabama out-scored the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 25-12 over the final 8:31 as they rallied for a 69-60 win Saturday afternoon to snap the Lady Bucs' two-game winning streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• After the first 14 minutes saw four ties and eight lead changes, the Lady Bucs (4-5, 2-4 GSC) seized control with an 8-0 run capped by a Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) triple that gave them a 23-16 lead with 4:57 remaining in the second quarter.
• The Tigers (5-5, 2-4) scored six straight to close within 25-24 in the final minute of the first half, and neither team would lead by more than four again until the fourth quarter.
• An Ashley Schaefer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) layup gave CBU a 48-44 lead with 8:50 remaining, but the Tigers answered with a 10-2 run to take a 54-50 lead on a Peyton Parker three-pointer with 6:00 remaining.
• The Lady Bucs came back within one possession three times, last on a Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) layup that brought them within 61-58 with 1:46 remaining. The Tigers answered that with a Catherine Taylor three-pointer with 1:18 to play, and Taylor was 5-of-6 at the free throw line in the final minute to preserve the victory.

KEY STATS:
• Reeves led the Lady Bucs with 16 points, adding eight rebounds and two assists.
• Madison Luckett (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) scored 11 points and grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds.
• Schaefer tacked on 10 points.
• The Lady Bucs shot 42.9 percent (24-of-56) for the game, including 21.7 percent (24-of-56) from beyond the arc.
• UWA was 46.4 percent (26-of-56) for the game, including 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from three-point range.
• The Lady Bucs out-rebounded the Tigers 36-34, but they committed 17 turnovers to UWA's 14. Each team grabbed seven offensive boards.

The Lady Bucs open a four-game homestand Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 30, at 1 p.m. as they host Harding.
