MEMPHIS-Visiting Lee used a 5-0 burst over a minute late in the fourth quarter as they claimed a 58-54 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Thursday night in the Gulf South Conference opener for both schools.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• The Lady Flames (4-2, 1-0 GSC) took control early with a 10-0 run capped by a Carrie Cheeks layup that gave them a 17-9 lead with 9:20 remaining in the second quarter.
• CBU (2-2, 0-1) answered with a 9-0 run capped by a
Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) three-point play that gave CBU a 23-22 edge with 4:40 remaining in the second quarter. Neither team would lead by more than six points again in the game.
• After the game was tied at 37, 39, 41 and 43, Lee used back-to-back baskets by Cheeks and Haris Price to take a 47-43 lead with 6:16 remaining. Banks scored a pair of layups to bring CBU within a point at 50-49 with 3:09 remaining in the game.
• Lee answered with a Shelby Brown basket to take a 52-49 lead, and Price sank three of four free throws to stretch the lead to 55-49 with 2:02 remaining. After the teams traded scores,
Rachel Lee (Jackson, Tenn./Jackson Christian School) sank a triple with 20 seconds remaining to bring CBU within 57-54, but Price sank a free throw and the Lady Bucs were unable to score again.
KEY STATS:• Banks scored a game-high 19 points for the Lady Bucs.

Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) scored 15 with eight rebounds.

Madison Luckett (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) added eight and hauled in seven boards with two blocks.
• The Lady Bucs shot 33.9 percent (21-of-62) for the game to Lee's 38.9 percent (21-of-54). The Lady Bucs were 23.8 percent (5-of-21) from beyond the arc, while Lee shot 36.8 percent (7-of-19).
• Lee out-rebounded CBU 44-29, including a 14-11 edge in offensive boards, but they committed 20 turnovers to CBU's eight.
