Lady Hawks Top CBU 11-2

MONTGOMERY, Ala.-Shorter completed a three-game series sweep of the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon as they won 11-2 in the series finale at Lagoon Park after the series was moved from CBU due to this week's weather.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Hawks (9-2, 4-2 GSC) batted around in the first inning, scoring six runs on three singles, a double, a triple, a walk and a hit batter.
• Shorter tacked on four more in the second inning on a Kori Benson grand slam.
• The Lady Bucs (3-11, 1-5) scored twice in the bottom of the third. Ali Hare (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida Baker HS) was hit by a pitch and Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) drew a walk. Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) hit an RBI double to score Hare, and Rosa-Ramon scored on a bases-loaded walk to Kylie Steagall (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS).
• Shorter set the final margin with a run in the top of the fourth on en error, a stolen base, a passed ball and a groundout.

KEY STATS:
• Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with an RBI double.
• Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) went 1-for-2.
• Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) went 1-for-1.
• Steagall, Rosa-Ramon and Gabrielle Sereika (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) each drew walks.
• Steagall allowed one unearned run in three innings of relief. She allowed a walk and a hit with one strikeout.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs come home Wednesday afternoon to host a doubleheader against LeMoyne-Owen.
