Ridgell Breaks Scoring Record in Senior Day Loss

MEMPHIS-Christian Brothers University senior guard Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn., White Station HS) scored a career-high 31 points as she broke the school's career scoring record Saturday afternoon, but the Lady Bucs lost 72-61 to North Alabama on Senior Day.

After a back-and-forth first half, the Lions (14-11, 11-10 GSC) opened a 36-30 lead on back-to-back threes by Corinne White and Delisa Madry with 17:49 remaining in the game. UNA held the lead until the Lady Bucs (8-19, 6-15) answered with a 10-0 burst midway through the half, capped by a Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) layup that gave them a 46-42 edge, but the Lions out-scored CBU 30-15 over the final 9:20 to stretch out the victory.

Ridgell tied the career scoring record on a jumper with 5:56 remaining in the first half that tied the game at 23, and she broke it with a pair of free throws with 19:19 remaining in the game. She scored 22 of her career-high 31 points in the second half, adding five rebounds and three steals. Ridgell now has 1,528 career points, surpassing the record of 1,506 set by head coach Sarah Condra from 1999 to 2004. Fellow senior Taylor Pugh (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) added five points, six rebounds and five blocks. Pugh's five blocks give her 56 for the season, second in school history and one off the school single-season record set by Amber Williams in 2011-12.

Mekena Randle paced the Lions with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Jennifer Towne added 13 and 10 boards. Janae Lyde scored 12 with eight rebounds, and White added nine rebounds to her 11 points.

The Lions shot 36.7 percent (22-of-60) while holding CBU to 32.8 percent (19-of-58). Both teams excelled from the free throw line, with CBU shooting 80.8 percent (21-of-26) to UNA's 79.3 percent (23-of-29). UNA out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 52-29, including a 17-7 edge in offensive boards, but they committed 14 turnovers to CBU's eight.

The loss eliminated the Lady Bucs from contention for the GSC Tournament. They wrap up the season Thursday night at 5 p.m. as they host No. 23 Union.
