Argos Top Lady Bucs 6-2 in Series Finale

PENSACOLA, Fla.-Host West Florida scored in five of the six innings they batted as they claimed a 6-2 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs (4-13, 2-7 GSC) struck first with a run in the top of the first. Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) hit a leadoff single and moved to second on a Leigh Ward (Oriental, N.C./Pamlico HS) groundout, scoring on a two-out Lauren Provence (Millington, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) single to center.
• The Argos (3-13, 2-7) answered with a run in the bottom of the inning on a double and an RBI single.
• UWF used a single and a double to plate another run in the bottom of the third to take their first lead of the day.
• The Argos added two in the fourth on a double and two singles to extend their lead to 4-1.
• CBU shaved a run off the lead in the top of the fifth. Amy Koury (Pearland, Texas/Pearland HS) reached on an infield single and moved to second on a throwing error. Amy Gracia (Fontana, Calif./International Polytechnic HS) singled her to third and stole second, with Koury scoring on a single by Gonzalez, but a strikeout and a groundout stranded on third.
• UWF scored a run in the fifth on two singles and an RBI groundout, and they added another run in the sixth on three singles.

KEY STATS:
• Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
• Provence went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
• Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) was 2-for-3.
• Gracia went 2-for-3.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs return to action Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they visit Trevecca Nazarene for a doubleheader. Their next home game is Saturday at 2 p.m. as they host Delta State for a doubleheader.
