FLORENCE, Ala.-No. 21 North Alabama used a seven-run inning in each game to blow open what had been a pair of close games as they swept the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 10-1 and 10-2 Sunday afternoon.
GAME 1:WHAT HAPPENED:The Lady Bucs (4-18, 2-10 GSC) scored first and led 1-0 after an inning, but the Lions (19-4, 8-3) scored in their final four innings to pull away to a 10-1 win as UNA pitcher BreeAnna Blevins threw a one-hitter.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• The Lady Bucs scored in the top of the first inning.
Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) walked and moved to second when
Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) grounded out. After a two-out walk to
Gabrielle Sereika (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute),
Kylie Steagall (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) laced a single to left to score Gonzalez. Sereika reached third but was tagged out diving back into the bag to end the inning.
• UNA converted a walk and a double into a tying run in the second inning, and they took 1 2-1 lead on a double and a single in the third.
• The Lions scored another run on a double and a single in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 3-1.
• UNA put it away in the fifth inning, scoring seven runs on a double, an error, four singles and a homer.
KEY STATS:• Steagall went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a walk.
• Gonzalez worked a walk and scored a run.
GAME 2:WHAT HAPPENED:Similarly to game one, the game was tied 2-2 in the fourth inning and the Lions led 3-2 after five before ending the game with a seven-run sixth inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• The Lions struck first with a run on a walk, a wild pitch, a single and a throwing error in the bottom of the first inning.
• UNA doubled its lead in the second inning with a run on two singles, a stolen base and a groundout.
• The Lady Bucs halved their deficit in the top of the third inning, when Gonzalez blasted a two-out solo homer to right-center.
• CBU tied the game in the top of the fourth with a run on back-to-back doubles by
Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) and
Lauren Provence (Millington, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS), but Provence was tagged out returning to second base.
• The Lions used a single, a stolen base, a groundout and an infield single to score what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the fourth.
• UNA ended the game with seven runs on an error and seven singles in the bottom of the sixth.
KEY STATS:• Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with a run and one RBI.
• Rosa-Ramon went 1-for-3.
• Provence was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Leigh Ward (Oriental, N.C./Pamlico HS) went 1-for-2.
NOTABLE:• Ward stole her 13th base of the season in game one. Ward is now tied for third in school history for steals in a season, matching Kathleen Nelson (2008). Netia Shores stole 16 bases in 2006, and Allyson Grooms swiped 15 in 2012.
WHAT'S NEXT:The Lady Bucs step out of GSC play Thursday afternoon before they return home next weekend to host No. 2 Valdosta State. Saturday's doubleheader is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch, with a single game set for noon Sunday. Thursday, they visit Stillman for a 2 p.m. twinbill.
