Bucs Blank Magicians 10-0

MEMPHIS-Three Christian Brothers University pitchers combined to throw a seven-hit shutout as the Bucs won 10-0 at LeMoyne-Owen Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bucs (8-9) used a two-out rally in the top of the first for all the offense they would need. Stephen Joe (Madison, Miss./Ridgeland HS) was hit by a pitch. Three pitches after sending a foul ball over the left-field fence, Cameron Coker (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) launched an RBI double off the top of the fence in left-center to score Joe and give the Bucs a 1-0 lead.
• The Bucs tacked on two runs in the third inning. Lucas Castleberry (Bryant, Ark./Bryant HS) was hit by a pitch and Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) walked. After a Joe flyout moved Castleberry to third, a wild pitch scored him. Goodwin scored when Coker reached on a two-out error, giving CBU a 3-0 ege.
• CBU added three runs to its lead an inning later. Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) was hit by a pitch, and Castleberry legged out an infield single. Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) drove Mattson in with a sacrifice fly. Goodwin singled Castleberry to third, and both scored when Joe doubled to right field to put the Bucs ahead 6-0.
• The Bucs set the final margin with a four-run eighth inning. Blain Curtis (Atoka, Tenn./Tipton Rosemark Academy) reached on an error, and Mattson worked a walk. After a Charles Kelly (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) sacrifice bunt, Castleberry hit a two-run single through the left side. Castleberry scored from first on Smith's single down the right-field line. After Smith moved to second on the throw home, a wild pitch brought him to third and a Goodwin sacrifice fly scored him.

KEY STATS:
• Castleberry was 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch, three runs and two RBI.
• Goodwin went 2-for-3 with two runs, a walk and one RBI.
• Smith and Joe each went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI.
• Mattson was 0-for-2 but drew a walk and a hit by pitch and scored twice.
