Lady Bucs Swept at UWG

CARROLLTON, Ga.-Host West Georgia swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday in CBU's final GSC road trip of the season.

GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Wolves (16-28, 9-19 GSC) used a six-run fourth inning to rally for a 7-3 victory in the opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UWG opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a run on three singles.
• The Lady Bucs (9-37, 2-24) took the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth. Leigh Ward (Oriental, N.C./Pamlico HS) singled and stole second base, and Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) was hit by a pitch. Lauren Provence (Millington, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) sacrificed them over to second and third. Ali Hare (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida Baker HS) reached on a two-out error to score one run, and Alexis Seward (Chino, Calif./Chino HS) hit an RBI single to give CBU a 2-1 lead.
• The Wolves exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth on a walk, two singles, a double and back-to-back home runs.
• CBU set the final margin with a run in the top of the fifth inning. Ward walked and stole second. Provence was hit by a pitch, and Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) singled to load the bases. Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) reached on an infield single to bring CBU within 7-3, but a groundout ended the threat and CBU stranded runners in scoring position in the final two innings.

KEY STATS:
• Seward went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
• Ward was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and two stolen bases.
• Gonzalez was 0-for-1 with a run, drawing a walk and being hit by a pitch twice.
• Parsels went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
All the scoring was in the first inning as UWG claimed a 3-2 win in the second game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs scored twice in the top of the first. Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) singled to left, and Gonzalez drew a walk. Provence sacrificed them to second and third, and Rosa-Ramon was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two out. Parsels hit an RBI single to center, scoring Oyhenart and Gonzalez, but Rosa-Ramon was tagged out trying to advance to third, ending the inning.
• The Wolves plated three in the bottom of the frame, on two singles, a double and a pair of errors.
• Neither team would score again, but the Lady Bucs stranded seven runners on base in the final six innings.

KEY STATS:
• Oyhenart went 2-for-4 with a run.
• Parsels was 1-for-1 with a walk, a sacrifice and two RBI.
• Gonzalez was 0-for-2 but scored a run, drew a walk and was hit by a pitch.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs step out of GSC play Tuesday afternoon as they visit Trevecca Nazarene for a 1 p.m. doubleheader. They finish the season at home next weekend against Lee, hosting a 2 p.m. doubleheader Saturday and a 1 p.m. single game Sunday.
