Trojans Sweep CBU in Final Nonconference Games

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-Host Trevecca Nazarene used a big fifth inning in game one and a big fourth inning in game two to sweep a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Wednesday afternoon.

GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
Trevecca used an Ansley Brantley home run in the bottom of the fifth to break up a 1-1 tie and claim a 3-2 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• CBU (9-39) opened the scoring with a run in the top of the fourth inning. Jennifer Gonzalez (Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS) led off with a double to right-center and scored when Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) singled down the right field line.
• The Trojans (29-8) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with a single, a stolen base and a double, all with two out.
• TNU took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth when Brantley hit a one-out solo homer to left center, and they added a run to their lead on a single and a double with two out.
• The Lady Bucs pulled within a run in the top of the seventh. Amy Gracia (Fontana, Calif./International Polytechnic HS) worked a leadoff walk and stole second. She came around to score on a two-out Gonzalez single, but a groundout ended the game.

KEY STATS:
• Gonzalez went 3-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, a run and one RBI.
• Parsels went 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and one RBI.
• Gracia drew walks in all three of her plate appearances and stole two bases.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
Trevecca Nazarene scored four runs in the fourth inning as they rallied for a 5-3 victory to complete the sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs again struck first with two runs in the top of the third inning. Walks to Gracia, Gonzalez and Taylor Rosa-Ramon (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell HS) loaded the bases with two out. Lauren Provence (Millington, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) followed with a two-run single to left-center to give CBU a 2-0 edge.
• The Trojans halved the deficit in the bottom of the third on a one-out solo homer by Brantley.
• Trevecca took the lead with a four-run fourth inning on a homer, a single, two walks and two doubles.
• CBU set the final margin with a run in the top of the sixth. Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) worked a one-out walk and pinch-runner Alana Byrd (Jackson, Tenn./Liberty Magnet HS) stole second and third. After Ali Hare (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida Baker HS) walked, Byrd scored on a first-and-third double-steal.

KEY STATS:
• Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
• Provence went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
• Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) went 1-for-2 with two walks.
• Kasey Beekman (Aurora, Colo./Aliso Niguel (Calif.) HS) threw two perfect innings of relief, with two strikeouts.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs wrap up the season at home this weekend. They host Lee for a 2 p.m. doubleheader Saturday, with Senior Day festivities scheduled for Sunday's 1 p.m. game.
