MEMPHIS-Christian Brothers University senior outside hitter
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas, Carroll HS) pounded a school-record with 32 kills as the Lady Bucs won in five sets over visiting Alabama Huntsville Friday night at Canale Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• The Lady Bucs (5-6, 2-3 GSC) used a four-point run late in the first set to take a 22-19 lead, holding on to win the set 25-23 on a kill by Gillis.
• In the second set, the Lady Bucs again rallied midway through the set to take a 19-16 edge, but UAH answered with a five-point run to take a 22-20 edge. UAH held a 24-22 lead after the teams traded points, but kills by
Brinsley Cooper (Rossville, Ind./Rossville HS) and Gillis and a block by Cooper gave the Lady Bucs a 25-24 edge on their way to a 26-24 win.
• The Lady Chargers (11-2, 2-2) took control of the third set early, using a six-point run to take a 10-5 lead. The Lady Bucs closed within two points at 15-13, 16-14 and 21-19, but UAH scored four of the final five points to win 25-20.
• The fourth set never saw a lead of more than three points until the end, and it was tied as late as 16-16. UAH scored nine of the next 14 points to take a 25-21 win and force a decisive fifth set.
• The Lady Bucs used early runs of 3-0 and 4-0 to take a 7-3 edge in the fifth set. UAH rallied within one point at 11-10, but the Lady Bucs scored the final four points, capped by a
Marisa Wong (Germantown, Tenn./Houston HS) ace to complete the victory.
KEY STATS:• Gillis hit .366 with 32 kills against six attack errors in 71 attempts, also adding 14 digs.
• Cooper hit .400 with 17 kills and two blocks.

Mary Kathryn Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) tacked on 10 kills, hitting .240 with three blocks.

Demi Chipman (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) notched team-highs of 17 digs and four aces.
• Wong added 13 digs, five assists and three aces.

Jessica Reber (Byron, Ill./Byron HS) dished out 60 assists with 12 digs.
•
Blythe Clausen (Hendersonvile, Tenn./Pope John Paul II HS) added 10 digs and two assists.
NOTABLE:• Gillis set a new school record with 32 kills, breaking the previous mark of 26 held by Hattie Schnacke and Nan Kimbrell (twice), both set in 2004.
• Her 32 points also broke the school record, previously held by Kimbrell with 30 in two matches in 2004.
• Gillis' 71 total attacks is third in school history, five off the record set by Kimbrell against Ouachita Baptist in 2004.
