MEMPHIS-Freshman midfielder
Connie Strini (Germantown, Tenn., Houston HS) scored the first goal of her career in the 84th minute to lift the Lady Bucs to a 2-1 win over Clayton State Saturday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• The Lady Bucs (2-0) opened the scoring with an own goal in the 10th minute as the Lakers (1-1) sent a ball into the net on a failed clearance attempt.
• The Lakers equalized in the 29th minute when Siobhan Wilson scored on a long shot from the left side.
• CBU regained the lead in the 84th minute as freshman Strini headed in a cross from
Camilla Rodrigues (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/American School) after a corner kick. The CBU defense held the Lakers without a shot in the final six minutes to preserve the victory.
KEY STATS:•
Emily Wragg (Nottingham, England/The Becket School) made three saves as she earned the victory in goal.
• The Lakers out-shot CBU 10-7 for the game, including a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.
WHAT'S NEXT:The Lady Bucs travel to Alabama for a pair of games next weekend. They face Saint Leo in Livingston, Ala., Friday at 11 a.m. before visiting Montevallo Sunday at noon. Their next home game is Friday, Sept. 18, as they host Valdosta State at 5 p.m.
