ROME, Ga.-Host Shorter opened the second quarter on an 18-3 run that gave them full control en route to a 58-46 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Thursday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• The Lady Hawks (12-4, 9-3 GSC) opened the game with a 9-2 burst and never trailed.
• After CBU (6-10, 4-8) used a
Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) triple and an
April Bonner (Memphis, Tenn./Kirby HS) layup to trim the deficit to 9-7 late in the first quarter, Shorter pulled away in the second quarter.
• The decisive run started with a pair of Taylor Adams free throws. By the time it ended with two more Adams free throws, the Lady Hawks led 29-10 with 4:27 remaining in the second quarter. Adams scored 12 of her game-high 22 points during the run, six at the line plus three on layups.
• The Lady Hawks built their lead to as many as 23 points in the second half on a Kayla Tillie layup that put them ahead 43-20 with 4:07 remaining in the third.

Ashley Schaefer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) answered with a layup that sparked a CBU rally, Her layup was the beginning of an 8-0 run to finish the quarter. A 9-0 run in the third, capped by a Banks triple, brought CBU within single digits at 48-40 with 5:04 remaining, but they were unable to come any closer.
KEY STATS:• Banks scored 17 points with four rebounds and three steals. She was 6-of-14 from the floor, including 5-of-10 from three-point range, setting a career-high with five three-pointers.

Rachel Lee (Jackson, Tenn./Jackson Christian School) added nine with five rebounds and four steals.
• Bonner grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in 22 minutes.
• CBU shot just 35.2 percent (19-of-54) for the game, including 20.8 percent (5-of-24) in the first half.
• The Lady Hawks were 38.2 percent (21-of-55) from the floor for the game.
• Shorter out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 42-32, including a 12-7 edge in offensive boards, and they forced 20 CBU turnovers while committing 17.
WHAT'S NEXT:The Lady Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they visit Lee. Their next home game is set for Thursday night at 5 p.m., when they host Mississippi College.
