Alex Trentman (Alexandria, Ky., Bishop Brossart HS) scored seven of his career-high 17 points during a game-opening 17-0 run as the Bucs cruised to an 87-56 win over West Florida Monday night at Canale Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Bucs (7-7, 5-3 GSC) scored on their first seven possessions and shut out West Florida(2-9, 1-7) on the Argos' first eight as they exploded for the 17-0 start, capped by a monstrous put-back dunk by
Drew Hildreth (Memphis, Tenn./Bolton HS) with 15:25 remaining in the half. Trentman sank two layups and a three-pointer during the run. The 17-0 start was the Bucs' best in a game since joining the NCAA.
CBU never allowed the Argos closer than 10 points again, pulling away for good with a 17-1 run capped by a Trentman triple with 4:32 remaining that gave CBU a 40-14 advantage. The Bucs led by as many as 37 points in the game's final minutes.
KEY STATS: Adam Dieball (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) made the most of his 19 minutes, scoring 19 points with six rebounds and five assists. He was 7-of-9 from the field, making all four three-pointers he attempted.
Trentman set career highs in nearly every category. He scored 17 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from three-point range. He also grabbed five rebounds, dished out four assists and blocked four shots, all career-bests, as he played 33 minutes, also a career-high. He took the place of
Tyler Estep (Cincinnati, Ohio/Reading HS), who was held out after suffering a hand injury during pregame warmups.
Jeff Larkin (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) scored 14 points with three rebounds and three assists.
Hildreth scored 12 points with six rebounds and three assists.
The Bucs shot a season-high 54 percent (34-of-63) for the game, including 50 percent (12-of-24) from three-point range, which also equaled a season-high.
West Florida shot 38.8 percent (19-of-49) overall and just 11.1 percent (1-of-9) from beyond the arc.
CBU out-rebounded the Argos 35-27, including a 12-7 edge in offensive rebounds, and they forced 13 UWF turnovers while committing 10.
