Lady Hawks Down Lady Bucs in Four

ROME, Ga.-Host Shorter opened the second half of the Gulf South Conference schedule by handing the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs a four-set loss Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Hawks (14-2, 9-2 GSC) took early leads of 5-1 and 12-6 in the opening set before going on to win 25-18.
• Shorter used a 10-point run in the second set to open an 11-2 lead, and they led by as many as 10 points in a 25-17 win in the second set.
• In the third set, neither side could pull away until CBU (10-8, 5-6) used a 5-1 run to take a 17-14 edge on an Emma Lenoir (Chattanooga, Tenn./East Hamilton HS) kill. They would not relinquish the lead, though Shorter closed within one point once and two points five times before the Lady Bucs clinched a 25-22 win on another Lenoir kill.
• The Lady Hawks opened the fourth set with five straight points and ended it with five straight points, never trailing in between as they won 25-15.

KEY STATS:
• Lenoir led the Lady Bucs with 12 kills and three aces to go with eight digs.
• Brinsley Cooper (Rossville, Ind./Rossville HS) hit .563 with nine kills.
• Mary Kathryn Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) pounded nine kills with three blocks, hitting .368.
• Blythe Clausen (Hendersonvile, Tenn./Pope John Paul II HS) garnered 15 digs.
• Marisa Wong (Germantown, Tenn./Houston HS) notched 12 digs.
• Jessica Reber (Byron, Ill./Byron HS) collected 37 assists with five digs and two blocks.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs travel to Orlando, Fla., to play in the South Region Crossover at the Orlando Sports Center. They open against No. 21 Tampa Friday at 9 a.m. Their next home match is Friday night, Oct. 21, when they host Union at 7 p.m.
