MONTICELLO, Ark.-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs led for most of the first quarter, but host Arkansas-Monticello dominated the final three quarters as they pulled away to a 68-51 win Friday night in the season opener for both squads.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs (0-1) led for most of the first quarter, using three
Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) free throws, a pair of
Kenzie Jones (Park Hills, Mo./Central HS) three-pointers and a
Madison Luckett (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) jumper to take an 11-6 lead with 4:09 remaining in the quarter. CBU extended its lead to 17-10 on a
Lindsey Owen (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) basket with 1:29 remaining in the quarter.
• The Cotton Blossoms (1-0) answered with a 20-4 run to take a 30-21 lead on an Ayesha Wahid jumper with 1:22 remaining in the half.
• UAM puled away for good late in the third quarter, ending the quarter on a 10-2 run as they opened a 49-31 lead on a Brittnee Broadway layup, a lead they built to as many as 25 points at 61-36 on a Lacy Alford jumper with 5:41 remaining.
• CBU used a 12-0 run, sparked by a
Rafaella Angelidou (Thessaloniki, Greece/Aristoteleio Kollegeio) three-pointer and capped by a
Kelsey Adkins (Lawrenceburg, Tenn./Lawrence County HS) layup, to come within 13 points at 64-51 with 1:36 to play.
KEY STATS:
• Jones led the Lady Bucs with 11 points and six rebounds.
• Banks scored eight with a team-high five assists.
• Adkins added eight with five rebounds.
• The Lady Bucs shot 35.3 percent (18-of-51) from the floor, including just 20 percent (5-of-25) from beyond the arc. UAM shot 42.4 percent (25-of-59), including 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from three-point range.
• The Lady Bucs out-rebounded UAM 37-34, but UAM held a 10-9 edge in offensive boards.
• CBU committed 17 turnovers to the Cotton Blossoms' 10.

The Lady Bucs play their final exhibition game Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they visit Austin Peay. Their home opener is set for Monday night, Nov. 21, when they face LeMoyne-Owen at 5 p.m.
