MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs hit a school-record .427 as they swept Lee in three sets Tuesday night in the Gulf South Conference quarterfinals.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• CBU (18-13) set the tone early in the opening set, taking early leads of 4-0, 11-4 and 13-5 to take full control. They closed the set on a seven-point run, pulling away to a 25-11 win.
• The second set saw Lee (15-15) take an early 4-1 lead, but the Lady Bucs scored the next three to knot the set. After the teams traded leads several times, CBU used a four-point run to take a 19-15 lead on a
Mollie Wadsworth (Hernando, Miss./Northpoint Christian HS) kill. After Lee closed within 20-18,
Emma Lenoir (Chattanooga, Tenn./East Hamilton HS) capped a three-point burst to give CBU a 23-18 lead, and the Lady Bucs went on to win 25-20.
• Again in the third set, the Lady Flames jumped to an early 4-1 lead, and they stretched their advantage to 11-5 on a Kristi Farley ace. A six-point run sparked by a
Mary Kathryn Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) kill gave CBU a 16-15 edge, and they took the lead for good with a three-point burst later, capped by a Wadsworth kill that left them ahead 19-16. Another Miller kill provided match point, giving CBU a 25-21 win and their first trip to the GSC semifinals since 2013.
