Lady Bucs Win Home Opener 63-45

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs shook off a slow start as they rolled to a 63-45 win over LeMoyne-Owen Monday night in their first home game of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Magicians (0-4) jumped to an early 13-6 lead on an Andrea McElvaine layup with 5:29 remaining, and a Courtney Banks layup with 2:13 remaining in the first quarter restored their lead to six points at 17-11.
• From there, the Lady Bucs (1-1) dominated. They shut LeMoyne-Owen out from the field in the second quarter, only allowing three free throws as they claimed a 25-20 lead at halftime.
• A quick 7-0 burst capped by a Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) triple gave CBU a 36-27 lead with 4:12 remaining in the third quarter. A 15-0 run bridging the final quarter break gave the Lady Bucs a 56-35 lead with 6:38 remaining, and they never allowed LOC closer than the final 18-point margin.

KEY STATS:
• Reeves scored 11 with seven rebounds, five assists and no turnover for the Lady Bucs
Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) scored 11 with four assists and no turnovers.
Madison Luckett (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) tacked on nine with six rebounds and four assists.
Lindsey Owen (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) scored nine with four rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench.
Makayla Enochs (Finley, Tenn./Dyer County HS) added nine with four rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench.
• CBU shot 40.3 percent (25-of-62) from the field for the game, including 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from three-point range. LOC shot 31.6 percent (18-of-57) from the field including 25 percent (3-of-12) from beyond the arc.
• The Lady Bucs out-rebounded LOC 38-34, including a 10-7 edge in offensive boards, and they forced 13 Lady Magician turnovers while committing eight.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs travel to Jackson for a pair of games next week. They visit Lane Monday at 5 p.m. before visiting No. 19 Union Tuesday at 6 p.m. in their GSC opener.
