MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs fell one point shy of claiming their third fourth-quarter comeback win in two weeks Saturday afternoon as they lost 63-62 to West Florida.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Argos (7-2, 2-1 GSC) controlled much of the early part of the game, opening the game on a 16-8 run capped by a Shaniqua Magee layup with 2:23 remaining in the first quarter.
• CBU (4-4, 1-3) scored the next five to pull within 16-13 on a pair of
Madison Luckett (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) free throws with 52 seconds remaining in the quarter, then they won the second quarter 17-6 to take a 32-24 lead into the locker room after a
Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) jumper in the final seconds of the half.
• The third quarter belonged to the Argos, however. First, they used an 8-0 run in the first 1:13 of the half to knot the game at 32 on a Courtney Meyer layup with 8:47 remaining in the quarter. Later, a 10-0 burst capped by another Meyer layup gave them a 46-38 edge with 2:51 remaining.
• CBU again started the fourth quarter strong, scoring the first six of the quarter to close within 52-51 on a
Rafaella Angelidou (Thessaloniki, Greece/Aristoteleio Kollegeio) jumper with 8:31 remaining.
• After the teams traded points through most of the fourth quarter, CBU tied the game at 61 on a
Sara Owen (Dyersburg, Tenn./Dyer County HS) free throw with 1:45 remaining, then again at 62 on a
Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) free throw with 1:06 to play. The score remained knotted at 62 until UWF's Alex Coyne drew a foul with 1.7 seconds remaining and sank the second free throw. CBU's last-second three-pointer rattled out, giving the Argos the victory.

HEAD COACH SARAH CONDRA'S THOUGHTS:
"I told the girls before the game, we want to come back in the locker room a winner, regardless of what the scoreboard says. We want to come out and play up to a standard that we normally play and compete. I felt like we came out and competed tonight. We didn't execute 100 percent, they made a few more plays than we did. But I felt overall that we played up to our standard of play as far as competition is concerned."
On Rafaella Angelidou:
"I was pleasantly surprised with Raf. I told her after the game, you never know when your number is going to be called, and you have to be ready. Tonight, we went with her, and she made a couple of big buckets and played some very key plays. She ran the offense, she did what we needed her to do. That's how you get more minutes. You know I'm tickled to death, because that's another option we have inside. So I was really pleased."
"The deeper you can get, that's a good problem to have. One, it helps with the competition in practice, because they know somebody can push them a little bit. And it's also good as a team and as a coach that you have the confidence that you can go to anybody on the bench."
"We come back on the 27th, so they've got about 10 days to relax. I'll tell you, the seven-day mandatory time off around Christmas is one of the best rules the NCAA has."
"A lot of things have started to click. Obviously there's a lot of things you can improve on, but overall the buy-in, the kids believe in themselves, they believe in what we do. They're starting to understand the offense, where they can be successful and how they can get their shots. I like this team, I like where we're heading, I like where we're heading in the future."
WHAT'S NEXT:
After taking time off for Christmas, the Lady Bucs return to action Saturday, Dec. 31, when they visit Mississippi College at 2 p.m. Their next home game is Monday, Jan. 2, as they host Delta State at 5 p.m.
