CLINTON, Miss.-The Christian Brothers University Bucs remained unbeaten in Gulf South Conference play as they won 82-73 at Mississippi College Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Choctaws (3-5, 0-4 GSC) opened the game on an 8-1 run capped by a Byron McCall layup with 18:21 remaining in the first half, and they held the lead for most of the half.
• The Bucs (8-3, 5-0) used a 15-5 run to take an 18-15 lead on a
Joe Laravie (Kettering, Ohio/Alter HS) bucket with 12:59 remaining in the half.
• MC answered with a 13-3 run to restore a seven-point lead at 28-21 on an Antonio Johnson triple with 8:41 remaining in the first half.
• A
Jeff Larkin (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) triple and a
Jordan Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) three-point play sparked a 15-3 run that gave the Bucs a 36-31 lead on a
Mitch Mays (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) layup with 4:07 remaining in the half.
• The Choctaws used a 13-5 run to regain a 47-44 lead on a DeOndre Haynes jumper with 17:04 remaining.
• CBU answered with nine straight to take a 53-47 lead on an
Adam Dieball (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) layup, but the Choctaws retied the game at 53 on a Xavion Dillon free throw with 12:04 to play.
• Back-to-back triples from Larkin and Dieball put the Bucs back on top for good, with another Dieball triple capping what became a 13-5 run that gave CBU a 66-58 lead with 7:44 remaining. MC never came closer than five points in the final minutes.
KEY STATS:

Alex Trentman (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart HS) scored a team-high 18 points with five rebounds, five assists and two steals.
• Dieball added 17 with a game-high seven assists.
• Mays logged his first career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 11 rebounds to go with two assists and two steals.
• Larkin scored 12 with three assists.
• Laravie added eight to go with three rebounds and two steals.
• The Bucs shot 52.5 percent (31-of-59) for the game, including 36.0 percent (9-of-25) from three-point range, but they shot just 52.4 percent (11-of-21) at the free throw line. MC finished 48.1 percent (25-of-52) overall, including 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from beyond the arc.
• The Choctaws out-rebounded CBU 34-31, with each team grabbing nine rebounds.
• The Bucs forced 16 MC turnovers while committing 10.
