Bucs' Bats Break Out For Goodwin's 250th

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs posted season-highs of 12 hits and 11 runs as they rolled to an 11-1 win over William Woods Saturday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field, giving head coach Phil Goodwin his 250th career victory at CBU.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After a passed ball moved them to second and third, Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) brought Goodwin home with a groundout and Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) scored Castleberrywith a single down the left field line.
• CBU added a run to its lead in the bottom of the third. Scott Pala (Hernando, Miss./Hernando HS) worked a leadoff walk. After moving to second on a wild pitch, he scored when Caleb Goodwin (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) singled to left to give the Bucs a 3-0 edge.
• The Owls (4-3) scored their lone run of the day in the top of the sixth, capitalizing on a walk, a stolen base, a single and a sacrifice fly.
• CBU answered with three in the bottom of the frame. Christian Halterman (Dyersburg, Tenn./Dyer County HS) drew a one-out walk, and Riley Kilgore (Cordova, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) was hit by a pitch. After Casey Goodwin walked to load the bases, Castleberry laid down a perfect squeeze bunt for a single, and a wild throw allowed Kilgore to score. After a wild pitch moved Goodwin to third and Castleberry to second, Traylor lifted a sacrifice fly to left to extend the CBU lead to 6-1.
• The Bucs ended the game with a five-run rally in the bottom of the eighth. Kilgore opened the inning with a double down the left field line, and he scored on a Casey Goodwin single to center. After Castleberry worked a walk, Traylor laid down a sacrifice bunt, and a wild throw to first allowed both Goodwin and Castleberry to score and Traylor to reach third. Halley followed with an RBI single.
