Bucs Blank Bearcats 5-0

MEMPHIS-Christian Brothers University pitchers Jack Parker (Shreveport, La., Evangel Christian Academy), Matthew Mills (Memphis, Tenn., First Assembly Christian School) and Peyton Sanderlin (Collierville, Tenn., Collierville HS) combined for a four-hit shutout to lead the Bucs to a 5-0 win over Northwest Missouri State Saturday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bucs (2-0) scored all the runs they would need in the bottom of the third inning. Lucas Castleberry (Bryant, Ark./Bryant HS) reached on an infield single and moved to third when Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) followed with a single to right. Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) hit an RBI double to left to bring Castleberry home, and Traylor scored on a Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) sacrifice fly to right to give the Bucs a 2-0 edge.
• CBU added three runs to its lead in the seventh inning. Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) reached on an error to start the inning, and singles by Castleberry and Traylor loaded the bases with no outs. Halley followed with a two-run single through the left side to give CBU a 4-0 edge. With one out, Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) grounded into a force play that scored Traylor to extend the lead to 5-0.

KEY STATS:
• Parker (1-0) retired 13 of the 17 batters he faced, pitching around three walks and maintaining a no-hitter until a James Holler single with two outs in the fifth inning. He struck out five batters in five innings.
• Mills threw three scoreless innings of relief, pitching around two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
• Sanderlin tossed a scoreless ninth, pitching around a leadoff infield single and striking out the final batter of the game to seal the victory.
• Halley went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI.
• Casleberry was 2-for-3 with two runs.
• Traylor went 2-for-3 with two runs.
