SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs split a doubleheader at Drury Sunday afternoon, winning the first game 11-5 before dropping game two 6-4.
GAME 1:WHAT HAPPENED:The Lady Bucs (3-3) used two four-run innings as they scored a season-high 11 runs en route to an 11-5 win over Drury (1-1).
HOW IT HAPPENED:• Both teams scored in the first inning. CBU opened the scoring with a run in the top of the frame.
Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) and
Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) beat out infield singles and executed a double-steal, with Oyhenart scoring when
Abby Ferreira (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS) reached on an error.
• Drury scored twice in the bottom of the inning n three singles and a pair of double-steals.
• The Panthers extended their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the third on a one-out home run by Miki Andrus.
• CBU regained the lead in the top of the fourth with their first four-run inning.
Blake Andres (Arlington, Tenn./Briarcrest HS) singled, and
Amy Koury (Pearland, Texas/Pearland HS) followed with a walk. After an
Alexis Seward (Chino, Calif./Chino HS) sacrifice pushed them to second and third, Oyhenart hit a two-run double then scored on a Johnson infield single. After stealing second, Johnson scored when
Gabrielle Sereika (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) reached on a two-out error.
• The Panthers tied the game in the bottom of the inning with two runs on three singles and a double-steal.
• The Lady Bucs regained the lead for good with a two-out rally in the top of the fifth. Andres and Seward each reached on errors, with Andres scoring on a
Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) single and Seward coming home on an Oyhenart single.
• CBU put it out of reach with another four-spot in the top of the seventh. One-out singles by Seward and Welch set the table, and a Johnson single loaded the bases with two out. Sereika hit a two-run single, followed by an
Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) single to load the bases again. Ferreira and Andres singled to bring two more runs home, setting the final margin.
KEY STATS:• Oyhenart went 3-for-5 with a double, two stolen bases, two runs and three RBI.
• Johnson was 3-for-5 with two runs and two stolen bases.
• Andres was 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
• Welch went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
• Parsels was 2-for-5.
• Sereika went 1-for-4 with a walk, one run and two RBI.
• Seward was 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
GAME 2:WHAT HAPPENED:Drury used a pair of three-run innings, scoring four unearned runs as they claimed a 6-4 win in the nightcap.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• The Panthers took control with a three-run first, taking advantage of two singles, an error, a double-steal and a double.
• CBU trimmed a run off the deficit in the top of the second inning. Parsels worked a leadoff walk. After moving to second on a Ferreira sacrifice, she scored on a
Hannah Oliver (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) single.
• Oliver brought the Lady Bucs within a run when she blasted a two-out homer to left-center in the top of the fourth.
• The Panthers added three runs back to their lead in the bottom of the fourth, capitalizing on two singles and two errors.
• CBU cut into the deficit in the top of the fifth. Oyhenart and Johnson started the inning with a pair of singles. After a double-steal, Oyhenart scored on a Sereika sacrifice fly.
• The Lady Bucs set the final margin with a run in the top of the seventh. Welch drew a leadoff walk, and Oyhenart followed with a single. After Johnson grounded into a force play, Sereika scored Welch with a groundout.
KEY STATS:• Oyhenart went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored.
• Oliver went 2-for-3 with a stolen base, a homer and two RBI.
• Johnson was 1-for-2 with two walks and two steals.
• Sereika was 1-for-2 with two RBI.
