CLINTON, Miss.-Host Mississippi College swept a Gulf South Conference doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday, winning the first game 5-0 and claiming a 9-1 win in the nightcap.
GAME 1:WHAT HAPPENED:• Carlie Sargent threw a four-hit shutout to lead the Lady Choctaws (20-9, 10-7 GSC) to a 5-0 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• Kristen Qualls gave Sargent all the run support she would need in the bottom of the second as she hit a two-run homer after a leadoff walk.
• The Lady Choctaws tacked on two more in the fourth on a single, a double, a sacrifice fly and an error.
• MC set the final margin in the sixth inning with a run on a walk and a double.
KEY STATS:•
Abby Ferreira (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS) singled in a pinch-hit appearance.

Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) was 1-for-2 with a walk and a double.

Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) also went 1-for-2 with a walk.

GAME 2:WHAT HAPPENED:The Lady Bucs (6-24, 2-15) scored the first run, but MC scored the final nine to claim a 9-1 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• Johnson and Oyhenart opened the game with back-to-back singles. After a wild pitch moved them to second and third, a
Kylie Steagall (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) sacrifice fly brought Johnson home.
• The Lady Choctaws opened the bottom of the second inning with back-to-back homers by Cheyenne Mathews and Qualls to regain the lead for good.
• MC tacked on another run in the third on a walk, a stolen base and a double.
• A leadoff homer by Qualls sparked a four-run fourth, as they added three more on a double, a single, a walk, an error, an RBI groundout and a wild pitch.
• The Choctaws ended the game with a two-run fifth inning, taking advantage of a walk, a single, a stolen base, a sacrifice fly and an RBI fielder's choice.
