MEMPHIS-Visiting West Florida scored a run in the seventh and four in the ninth to claim a 5-0 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Saturday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:•
Peyton Sanderlin (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) tossed a gem for the Bucs (7-22, 1-17 GSC), holding UWF (19-11, 13-5) scoreless through six innings as he pitched around five hits, a walk and a hit batter.
• The Bucs nearly scored in the fourth inning.
Andrew Miller (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) hit a one-out double but was tagged out at the plate trying to score on a
Brandon Dodd (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) single.
• The Argos finally broke through in the top of the seventh. After a leadoff single, a one-out hit batter and walk loaded the bases, and a Nic Strasser sacrifice fly scored what proved to be the winning run.
• UWF tacked on four more against the CBU bullpen in the top of the ninth, taking advantage of a double, two walks, a single, a wild pitch and two errors.
KEY STATS:• Sanderlin threw eight innings, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks against five strikeouts.
