Wildcats Sweep Lady Bucs

MCKENZIE, Tenn.-Host Bethel swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Tuesday afternoon in the Lady Bucs' final non-conference tilt of the season.

GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Wildcats (31-16) scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to claim a 4-3 extra-inning win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Bethel opened the scoring in the bottom of the third with a run on a walk, a single and aggressive baserunning on a groundout.
• The Lady Bucs (9-40) tied the game back up in the top of the fourth. Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) led off with an infield single. After stealing second and third, she scored on a Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) groundout.
• CBU took the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) led off with a single but was forced out when Amy Koury (Pearland, Texas/Pearland HS) grounded into a force play. Koury moved to second on an Oyhenart single, and an Alexis Seward (Chino, Calif./Chino HS) double gave the Lady Bucs a 2-1 edge.
• Bethel tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out Amanda Brandenburg homer, eventually sending the game to extra innings.
• In the top of the eighth, the Lady Bucs scored a run. Hannah Oliver (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) started the inning on second as the international tiebreaker runner. One-out walks to Koury and Johnson loaded the bases, and an infield single by Seward put the Lady Bucs on top.
• In the bottom of the inning, Bethel scored a pair of runs on a hit batter and two singles.

KEY STATS:
• Seward went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
• Johnson was 1-for-3 with a run and two stolen bases.
• Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) went 1-for-3.
• Welch was 1-for-3.
• Oyhenart went 1-for-4 with one RBI.
• Jenna Cotter (Collierville, Tenn./Houston HS) allowed four runs, three earned, as she scattered eight hits and a walk over seven and two-thirds innings.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Wildcats hit five home runs and scored in all six innings as they pulled away to an 11-4 win in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Bethel scored three runs in the first inning on an error and a pair of homers.
• The Wildcats added two more in the second on two doubles, a walk and a single.
• Bethel tacked on another run in the third on a walk, an error and a double.
• CBU broke through in the top of the fourth inning. Seward reached on a passed ball on a dropped third strike, and she moved to third on a Kylie Steagall (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) double. A Sierra Anderson (Olive Branch, Miss./Lewisburg HS) sacrifice fly scored Seward, and Oliver tripled Steagall home.
• The Wildcats scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth on a walk and a homer to extend their lead to 8-2.
• The Lady Bucs answered with two runs on a two-out fifth-inning rally. Johnson reached on a two-out infield single, and Oyhenart followed with a walk. Seward drove both in with a double to left to cut the deficit to 8-4.
• Bethel scored a run in the bottom of the fifth on a leadoff homer by Hannah Clifton.
• The Wildcats set the final margin with two in the sixth on a single and a homer.

KEY STATS:
• Steagall went 2-for-3 with a double and a run.
• Seward was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
• Anderson went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
• Oliver was 1-for-3 with a triple and one RBI.
• Oyhenart went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run.
• Johnson was 1-for-4 with a run.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they host No. 5 North Alabama for a doubleheader. Sunday's season finale is set for a noon first pitch.
