No. 4 Lions Sweep Lady Bucs

MEMPHIS-No. 4 North Alabama clubbed eight home runs as they swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon at Bland Field.

GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Lions (45-5, 28-3 GSC) hit five homers and scored in each of the game's five innings as they won 12-3 in the series opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UNA struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning on a walk and a two-run Reagan Tittle homer.
• The Lady Bucs (9-42, 3-29) answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) led off with a single. After stealing second, she moved to third on an Alexis Seward (Chino, Calif./Chino HS) groundout, coming home on an Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) infield single.
• The Lions restored their two-run advantage on a Madeline Lee solo homer in the top of the second.
• UNA extended its lead to 5-1 with two runs in the third on an error, two singles, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.
• CBU scored twice in the bottom of the inning. Johnson and Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) opened the inning with back-to-back singles to left field. A wild throw on a failed sacrifice bunt attempt allowed both to score, bringing the Lady Bucs within a 5-3 margin.
• The Lions homered twice in a five-run fourth inning, first a three-run Brooklynn Clark homer and then a two-run shot by Anna Grace Norris to extend the margin to 10-3.
• UNA tacked on two more in the top of the fifth on a two-out walk and another Clark homer.

KEY STATS:
• Johnson went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
• Oyhenart was 1-for-3 with a run.
• Parsels went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
Freshman pitcher Jenna Cotter (Collierville, Tenn./Houston HS) carried a shutout into the fifth inning, but two homers sparked a six-run fifth inning as the Lions won 7-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Cotter kept the Lions off balance for the first four innings, pitching around four hits and three errors in the first four frames.
• The Lions broke through with a one-out rally in the fifth, scoring after a triple, a walk and a Tittle homer. After another single, Norris belted a two-out homer to right-center to extend the margin to 5-0. Two more singles and a double plated a sixth run before the Lady Bucs escaped the inning.
• UNA set the final margin in the top of the seventh when Lee hit a one-out solo homer.
