CLEVELAND, Miss.-No. 23 Delta State swept a Gulf South Conference doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon, claiming a 2-1 extra-inning win in game one and a 10-2 win in the nightcap.
GAME 1:WHAT HAPPENED:• The Lady Statesmen (29-10, 18-5 GSC) scored a run in the bottom of the eighth to break a 1-1 tie and win 2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• Delta State opened the scoring with a run on a two-out rally in the bottom of the fifth, taking advantage of a hit batter and two singles to score the game's first run.
• CBU (6-32, 2-21)tied the game back up in the top of the sixth.
Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) singled and moved to second on an error. After moving to third on a
Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) groundout, she scored on a
Hannah Oliver (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) groundout to tie the game.
• The game remained in a 1-1 tie until the bottom of the eighth, when the Lady Statesmen used a single, a sacrifice bunt, a flyout and a wild pitch to plate the winning run.
KEY STATS:• Johnson went 3-for-4 with a run and a stolen base.
• Oliver was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Alexis Seward (Chino, Calif./Chino HS) went 1-for-3.
GAME 2:WHAT HAPPENED:Delta State used a nine-run third inning to take control in a 10-2 win in the nightcap.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• DSU scored nine in the third inning on a single, three doubles, a hit batter and five walks.
• The Lady Statesmen added another tally in the fourth on a double and a single.
• CBU plated two runs in the top of the fifth.
Jacqueline Conlan (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) and
Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) singled with one out, followed by an
Abby Ferreira (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS) single that plated Conlan. Parsels came around to score on an error to set the final margin.
KEY STATS:• Johnson went 1-for-3 to extend her hitting streak to 20 games.
• Conlan went 1-for-2 with a run.
• Parsels was 1-for-2 with a run.
• Ferreira went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
WHAT'S NEXT:The Lady Bucs meet Delta State again tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. Their next home game is next Saturday, when they host West Georgia for a noon doubleheader.
