MEMPHIS-Visiting Maryville scored two first-half goals and withstood a late Christian Brothers University comeback as they handed the Bucs a 2-1 defeat Thursday night in the season opener for both squads.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Saints (1-0-0) struck first when Pontus Gitselov headed in a corner kick from Joergen Pettersen in the 23rd minute.
• In the 37th minute it was Gitselov who set up the goal, ssending a pass ahead to Helmut Florencia, who scored from the right side of the goal.

Brendan Bennett (Belfast, Northern Ireland/St. Mary's Christian Brothers Grammar School) put the Bucs (0-1-0) on the board in the 82nd minute when he finished off a cross from
Andrew McKeever (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) at the back post.
KEY STATS:
• The Bucs out-shot Maryville 12-6, including a 7-2 edge in shots in the second half. CBU also held a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.
• Saints goalkeeper Christian Kjaersgaard made four saves, while
Ricardo Lao (Barcelona, Spain/Escola Pia Sabadell) made a pair of saves for CBU.
