MEMPHIS-Visiting Shorter claimed a four-set win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Tuesday night at Canale Arena as they remained unbeaten.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Shorter (7-0, 1-0 GSC) jumped to a 7-2 lead in the opening set. They led by as many as 11 points at 22-11 and 23-12 before the Lady Bucs (4-2, 0-1) cut the final margin to 25-18.
• The Lady Hawks again jumped to an early lead in the second set, taking a 12-5 edge on back-to-back aces. The Lady Bucs whittled the deficit back to 15-13 on a double-block by
Brinsley Cooper (Rossville, Ind./Rossville HS) and
Mollie Wadsworth (Hernando, Miss./Northpoint Christian HS), but Shorter answered with four straight points, and they never allowed CBU closer than five points again in a 25-17 win.
• In the third set it was CBU who took control early, building a 6-1 edge on two blocks and two kills by
Mary Kathryn Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS). The Lady Hawks drew within a point at 14-13, but CBU used a five-point runto take a 19-13 lead, and they led by as many as eight points in a 25-19 win.
• The fourth set was nip-and-tuck after a pair of early runs that saw Shorter take a 6-2 lead and CBU answer to take a 7-6 edge. From there, neither team led by more than four points again. The Lady Hawks built that four-point edge at 23-19 on back-to-back BreAnna Thompson kills. The Lady Bucs fought back within 24-23, but Shorter ended the match with a Tiffani Estep kill.

Jessica Reber (Byron, Ill./Byron HS) dished out 44 assists with 13 digs and four assists.

Emma Lenoir (Chattanooga, Tenn./East Hamilton HS) paced the CBU offense with 13 kills and 11 digs, hitting .256.
• Miller tacked on 11 kills, hitting .357 with five blocks and four digs.
• Cooper hit .231 with nine kills and five blocks.

Erica Maurer (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) added eight kills and six digs.
•
Blythe Clausen (Hendersonvile, Tenn./Pope John Paul II HS) nothced 19 digs.

The Lady Bucs hit the road Thursday night as they visit Union at 7 p.m. Their next home match is Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., when they host Mississippi College.
