MEMPHIS-No. 22 West Florida claimed a five-set win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Friday night at Canale Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• In the first set, the Argos (11-4, 7-0 GSC) jumped to an early 10-5 lead, but the Lady Bucs (7-5, 3-4) answered with a 5-1 run to draw within an 11-10 margin, and neither team would lead by more than two points again. The set was tied at 22 and then at 24 before the Argos scored the final two on Kathryn Torre kills to win 26-24.
• The Lady Bucs exploded for a six-point run sparked by back-to-back aces from
Mollie Wadsworth (Hernando, Miss./Northpoint Christian HS) to take an 11-6 lead in the second set, and she served for another five-point run featuring a pair of aces her next time through the rotation to build a 24-14 lead as CBU went ahead to win the set 25-16.
• In the third set it was UWF who took control early, taking leads of 9-4, 13-7 and 17-10. The Lady Bucs answered with a six-point run to tie the set back up at 18, but UWF used a five-point run to open a 24-19 lead en route to a 25-20 win.
• CBU exploded for an 8-1 run early, sparked by a pair of
Erica Maurer (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) aces and capped by yet another Wadsworth ace, to take a 10-4 lead in the fourth set. UWF answered with a five-point run and tied the set at 11 and 15, eventually taking a 20-18 edge. CBU would score seven of the final 10, however, to win 25-23 on a Maurer kill to force a decisive fifth set.
• The fifth set again saw UWF take command early with leads of 4-1 and 6-2. The Lady Bucs used a three-point run to draw within 9-8 pm a
