Lions Top Lady Bucs 68-63

FLORENCE, Ala.-Host North Alabama out-scored the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 40-24 over the final 15:28 Saturday afternoon as they rallied for a 68-63 win after CBU had led for most of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs (6-5, 3-4 GSC) used an 11-4 run capped by a Madison Luckett (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) jumper to take an 11-6 lead with 3:19 remaining in the first quarter.
• After a back-and-forth second quarter, CBU opened the third with a 12-2 run to take a 37-28 lead, their largest of the day, on a Rachel Lee (Jackson, Tenn./Jackson Christian School) layup with 5:37 remaining in the third quarter.
• The Lions (10-2, 4-2) stormed back with nine straight points on consecutive three-pointers, one by Jaclyn Heath then two by Emma Wallen to tie the game at 37 with 4:13 remaining in the third. By the time Wallen capped the third-quarter scoring, the run had grown to 21-4 as her three-pointer with 23 seconds remaining in the quarter gave UNA a 49-41 lead.
• After another Wallen triple early in the fourth put the Lions ahead 52-43 with 8:59 remaining, the Lady Bucs used a 7-0 run to close within 52-50 on a pair of Lee free throws with 6:31 remaining, but they were unable to come closer.

KEY STATS:
Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) scored 21 points with eight rebounds in 19 minutes.
• Lee scored 15 with three rebounds.
Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) added 11 with five rebounds and three assists.
• CBU shot 38.6 percent (22-of-57) from the field, including 35.3 percent (6-of-17) from three-point range. UNA finished 34.4 percent (22-of-64) overall and 32.3 percent (10-of-31) from beyond the arc.
• The Lions out-rebounded CBU 48-36, including a 23-11 edge on the offensive boards. CBU forced 14 UNA turnovers while committing 12.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs return to action Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they visit Alabama Huntsville. Their next home game is scheduled for Thursday night at 5 p.m. against Lee.
