Lady Bucs Top Trojans in Four Sets

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs rolled to a four-set win at Trevecca Nazarene Tuesday night as they opened a string of seven straight road matches.

CBU 3, Trevecca Nazarene 1 (25-16, 25-27, 25-13, 25-16):
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs (10-11) jumped to an early 7-2 lead and never trailed in the opening set, never allowing Trevecca (4-16) closer than three points as they pulled away to a 25-16 win.
• In the second set it was the Trojans who took a quick 5-1 lead. After CBU battled back to an 11-all tie, Trevecca eventually used a 6-1 burst to take a 20-15 lead they would stretch to 23-17. The Lady Bucs answered with seven in a row to take a 24-23 lead, but the Trojans scored four of the last five to win 27-25 and even the match.
• CBU took an early 7-3 lead in the third set, but TNU rallied to tie the set at 7. The Lady Bucs regained the lead for good with a 5-1 run capped by a Kapria Manning (Olive Branch, Miss./Center Hill HS) ace, and an eight-point run capped by a Mary Kathryn Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) ace gave them a commanding 20-11 lead. They eventually won the set 25-13.
• The Lady Bucs hit .480 in the fourth set, building an 11-5 lead they would not relinquish on a double-block by Alexa Henderson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie HS) and Gennah Schoen (Portland, Ore./David Douglas HS). Back-to-back Emma Lenoir (Chattanooga, Tenn./East Hamilton HS) aces extended their lead to 16-9 as they pulled away to another 25-16 win to clinch the victory.

KEY STATS:
• Lenoir led the CBU offense with 14 kills and four aces, hitting .323 with 16 digs.
• Schoen hit .391 with nine kills and two blocks.
• Erica Maurer (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) added eight kills and three blocks.
• Miller tacked on eight kills, four blocks and two aces.
• Henderson dished out 33 assists with eight digs, three kills, two aces and two blocks.
• Blythe Clausen (Hendersonvile, Tenn./Pope John Paul II HS) racked up 22 digs with three assists.
• Manning added 10 digs with three kills.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs return to action at the South Region Crossover in Hoover, Ala. They will face Lynn Friday afternoon at 12:15 p.m., Eckerd Friday night at 7 p.m. and Rollins Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Their next home match will be Tuesday night, Oct. 24, when they host Lyon at 7 p.m.
