MEMPHIS-Visiting West Florida scored less than a minute into the second half to claim a 1-0 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Friday night at Signaigo Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Argos (11-3-1, 8-2-1 GSC) opened the second half with a goal in the 46th minute as Grace Busby scored off a pass sent into the box from Isabella Garcia.
KEY STATS:
• UWF out-shot the Lady Bucs (8-6-1, 6-5-1) 15-5, including a 4-2 edge in shots on goal.
•
Nikesha Mitchell (Toronto, Ontario/Cedarbrae C.I.) led the team with three shots in the game.
GSC STANDINGS:
With the loss, CBU drops into eighth place in the GSC standings with two games remaining. Mississippi College and Lee are tied for first with 30 points, North Alabama is in thrid with 28, with Valdosta State (26) and West Florida (25) rounding out the top five that have all clinched a spot in the GSC Tournament. With 21 points each West Alabama and West Georgia remain slightly ahead of CBU (19). The top eight teams go to the tournament, with quarterfinals hosted by higher seeds Tuesday, Oct. 31. The semifinals will be Friday, Nov. 3, in Montgomery, Ala., with the finals set for Sunday, Nov. 5, in Montgomery.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs remain will remain at home for their final two games this season. They host Valdosta State Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. for Senior Day before wrapping up the regular season when they host Union Thursday evening at 5 p.m.
